Now that you have a beautiful piece, it’s important to keep it beautiful.
How do you keep glass beautiful and functional for years to come?
By cleaning it – regularly!
As a glass owner, it is your responsibility to ensure your glass is always sanitary for the highest quality taste and efficiency.
Nobody wants to use that dirty piece of glass that’s all nasty and resin-filled (well-some might but certainly not the majority)..
The glass community has done it’s best to develop products that can keep your glass sparkling and working like new! Honestly though you don’t even need special cleaning agents to keep your glass looking and functioning at it’s best – it’s very simple to do with common materials you have in your house already. But before we get into that…
HOW TO PREVENT RESIN BUILD UP
A few tips to keeping your glass pipes clean before allowing the resin to build up overtime starts with ridding ash from your pipe immediately after use. By taking small steps often, you will prevent build up and this will save you time and difficulty later on.
Nobody wants to inhale ash…nobody. If you have had this experience, which most of us have, then you understand that ash is your worst enemy. If you don’t already – use screens! They’re super cheap and will save you from dealing with ashy inhales. Also be sure to change them frequently. If you can’t see through it anymore – throw it out & replace it with a new one.
You can also opt for using a Carbon filter adapters. Activated carbon filters out toxins and carcinogens and protects the main water chamber from unwanted dirt, ash and residue from the bowl.
For certain glass pipes, like color-changing pipes, the beauty is enhanced by the accumulation of smoke resin on the inside of the pipe. Like magic! But unless the glass is fumed, no color-changing will occur.
This is the reason as to why a good number of the pipe owners prefer to not clean the pipe so as to not get rid of the resin. Just keep in mind, the more resin a pipe has inside, the harsher the hit will be.

IMPORTANT WARNING: While this may seem like common sense, due to the fact that so many people end up breaking their pipes during the cleaning process, we feel the need to say this anyway…
We’ve so many horror stories about people breaking their precious pipes because it slipped out of their hands while they were cleaning it.
There are 3 important tips to keep in mind while your cleaning your pipes:
Don’t wear bulky rubber gloves while cleaning. If you must wear some, choose the form-fitting latex-style gloves.
When pouring the alcohol or cleaning agent into your piece, ensure the piece is flat on it’s base and on a solid surface that will not move. Also ensure that the cleaning agent pours into the pipe without spilling over the outside – we recommend using a small plastic funnel.
KEEP YOUR HANDS AS DRY AS POSSIBLE & maintain a FIRM BUT GENTLE GRIP on your piece while cleaning it.
Cleaning the pipe well with running water and once in a while with a bit of soap does not get rid of the oil-soluble resin but only gets rid of bits of ash and what was on the lips of the last person to use the pipe. That is not enough.
To fully clean your glass, you can use a bit if acetone, which is commonly referred to as rubbing alcohol (be sure to use the highest percentage, preferably 90%).
You can also use salt and isopropyl alcohol or a glass pipe cleaning kit.
After filling the glass with this mixture, allow it a good amount of time to break apart the nasty chemicals. Around 30 minutes to an hour is what most people wait. You can even leave it overnight if it’s been a while or your piece is really dirty.
Then the fun part… shake, shake, and shake!
Shake it until that bad boy is sparkling shinier than when you bought it.
TIP: if your pipe has a lot of twists and curves in it, you may want to purchase some cheap craft pipe cleaners like these. They come in handy when getting in the nooks and crannies when you don’t have time to let your piece soak in the alcohol.
After all is said and done your glass will look brand new.
Remember that this is not a onetime thing, but lifelong responsibility as a glass owner. Besides who wants to take a hit out of a dirty pipe? it’s much more appealing to smoke out of a clean glass piece, isn’t it?
You’ll be doing yourself a favor, as that bacteria can become harmful to your health overtime. And others will not be wanting join you in that smoking session when they see your nasty gunk-filled pipe.
In the event that you would like to enjoy your glass pipes for years time to come, ensure that you clean them regularly. You do not have to thoroughly clean them every time; you can do the thorough cleaning once in a while but ensure that you at least do something on a regular basis.
