It is easy to figure out how to use glass rigs and glass pipes, but do you know how to keep them clean? Do you know what to use to get the gunk and residue off that once brand new glass rig? Today, I will talk about how dab users properly take care for their glass rigs and glass pipes in detail. Hopefully after reading this post, you will know more than you did before.
Cleaning Your Glass Rigs & Glass Pipes
A multitude of cleaning products exist in the world of dabbing and I am sure you may have seen some of these products before whether you shop at a brick and mortar shop, or an online one. Some will work while others are simply a waste of money. Personally, I have an issue with some of these products as they do not get rid of the problem of dirt or nasty odor; the products mask the color and smell by changing the glass rig’s color and making it smell like daisies to hide the strong isopropyl alcohol.
Simple Solutions Work Best!
I suggest taking some isopropyl alcohol and mix a little bit of salt. The salt will help carefully scrape away the residue in your glass rig. Buy some pipe cleaners to help you clean every inch of the inside of the glass pipe. Some people just pour the alcohol in and let it sit for a while. Be careful because since it is obviously alcohol, it is flammable.
Remember the Reclaim When it Comes to Glass Rigs
When it comes to the reclaim, it would help to buy something to collect the reclaim automatically from your glass rigs. The more room you give for the reclaim to collect to the surfaces, the more build-up will appear. As a result, you will have to clean longer to remove it. That is why you need a large bowl, hot water, a silicone container, and a metal spoon. This is going to help with cleaning out your rig.
Once you get all the supplies together, take out the dab nail and dome from the glass rig. Apply a slight amount of heat from your torch and add some hot water. Slowly whirl the water and empty it into the large bowl. Repeat with the hot water and bowl as many times as you need to remove the reclaim. Use the spoon to scoop it out. Once you have removed as much as you could, take the pipe cleaners and alcohol and make your rig good as new.
Cleaning Tips for Glass Rigs
A quick tip: do not use the alcohol if you are not done using the torch. Make sure you get your reclaim and then use the isopropyl. If you feel unsure about using the vapor rig before taking a hit, rinse out the rig with water and let it dry. Also, when you are using the heat, be sure to not go over the same section of the glass rig repeatedly. One more thing: when it is time to throw out the used alcohol, either throw it out in the garbage or pour down the toilet (I prefer the first one).
Right about now, you may know some things about choosing a suitable dab rig. What about dab nails? The internet is chocked full of information about the materials used, brands, sizes, and much more when it comes to nails. Learn how to shop smart and choose the best dab nails for your preferred needs.
What is the Cost of Dab Nails?
One of the factors in choosing the best dab nail for yourself is price. You can get something as cheap as $16 or as pricey as $100; this does not include electronic nails, which can cost hundreds of dollars.
What Materials Are Dab Nails Typically Made From?
Another factor is the type of material that the manufacturer used to make the dab nail. Dab nails come in titanium, glass, quartz, and ceramic. Titanium nails heat up easily and the nail knows how to maintain temperature. Also, being that it is a strong metal, titanium nails don’t crack or break easily! So, you can simply pick it up if it falls and reconnect it to your dab rig. Titanium nails are great for smoking large amounts of dab at a time.
Glass dab nails are great additions, too. It’s very affordable and flavorful within each toke. The disadvantage to using glass nails is that they break very easily, especially when they undergo rapid changes with temperature. Ceramics are similar to glass dab nails because while they are full of great taste, it will shatter from the sudden alterations in temperature.
Quartz dab nails are great tools to use. Now, these kinds of nails are slightly more costly compared to glass nails, but they are worth the investment. Unlike glass dab nails, quartz won’t break under sudden temperature changes. These dab nails are packed with flavor, but can still break easily if it falls on the floor.

Dab Nails & Vapor Domes
The third factor is the option of getting a dome or going without a dome. A dome is an accessory that entraps the smoke from a dab to keep the intense flavor. The other purpose is to help the user circumvent getting burned from the nail’s heat. These are the standard types of nails. The two downsides are that you have to remove the dome after you finish dabbing and the size of the dabbing area is small.
Nails without domes (called domeless nails) are great for more dabbing room and increased flow of air. You don’t have to think about a sticky dome and come in a variety of joint sizes. These types of nails, however, cost more and doesn’t work as well when dealing with the wind.

Types of Dab Nails
Lastly, the shape and style of a dab nail is important. Styles such as honey hole or castle exist and have their advantages and disadvantages on their own. Whichever style you decide to choose, be sure to experiment to see if it is right for you.
Dab nails are great products to use and with enough information, you can make a good decision for yourself. Keep yourself updated on the latest improvements of dabbing tools and accessories so you can know how to get amazing hits.
